Papers of the Weeks family [microform], 1795-1943.

Include bills, accounts, inventories and letters of the Weeks family of "Shadows on the Teche," New Iberia, La. Of interest is the will of David Weeks, 1834, leaving property "bought at the sale of the late Dr. John Fowles" and some slaves to his daughters, Frances and Harriet. In a letter, 1853, Mary C. Moore asks her husband, John, to bring her a copy of "Uncle Tom's cabin." In a letter, 1943, Lyle Saxon writes to Weeks Hall vowing to save "The Shadows" which Hall has offered to the government.

David Weeks was a planter, plantation owner, and sugar manufacturer of New Iberia, La. The son of William Weeks and Rachel Hopkins Swayze, Weeks was born in Feliciana, Spanish West Florida, in 1786. He purchased Parc Perdu Plantation and assumed management of the Weeks family estate upon his father's death in 1819.
